Pruning of trees is a harmful procedure. Therefore, proper pruning involves understanding when, how much, and where branches and stems should be removed. Many of our client's trees have been malpruned in the past (either by unprofessional landscape or tree services, or by previous homeowners). In this case restoration pruning may be necessary.

A report is usually delivered to our client containing the tree information including pinpoint mapping of the trees and recommendations for future care.

Controlled Tree Removal

When necessary to remove a tree, it is important to protect objects below from damage due to falling tree parts. Our fully trained climbing arborists understand advanced tree removal techniques involving lifting, lowering, or sliding tree parts horizontally along ropes. (Sometimes rigging processes become very complicated.) This is perhaps the most dangerous aspect of tree work.

Tree Resource is staffed by arborists qualified to perform Visual Tree Assesment (VTA) methods on your tree. We use our knowledge of tree biology and tree growth characteristics, to identify areas of risk and issues with tree health. If further investigation is necessary, arrangements for other advanced testing equipment may be required, such as the Inclino-elasto pulling test, which measures the amount of force required to tip over or break a tree. Also, we may use other non-invasive diagnostic tools such as the PiCUS tomograph which uses sound to develop a cross sectional picture of the inside of a tree, for locating decay.

Tree Disease Diagnosis and Treatment

The majority of reported pest and pathogens on trees and tree parts are secondary agents, or symptoms of other stresses/problems. We can either field diagnose these tree associates or bring samples to a lab. Arborists are aware of the delicate balance between trees and the surrounding ecosystems.

Cat in a tree Rescue

Domestic cats often do not know how to climb down from trees. Some of our rescue clients have had their pets stuck in trees without food and water for over a week. A professional arborist is able to safely climb a tree to bring down these stuck pets. Last year, our arborist personell in Seattle rescued 28 cats, 2 parrots and 1 kite. Animal rescue is billed at $150.00 flat fee.

In order to safely (for trees as well as people) perform tree work, a tree professional will install an overhead anchor from the ground and ascend and work a tree using ropes and knots hardware.
